DeepMind reveals AlphaGo beat a professional Go player

In a Nature paper published January 27, 2016, DeepMind revealed that AlphaGo had beaten European Go champion Fan Hui 5-0 in October 2015, the first time a program defeated a Go professional on a full board without handicap. The result stunned the field and set up the celebrated Lee Sedol match weeks later. It validated combining deep neural networks with Monte Carlo tree search.
