Meta releases the LLaMA family of open language models

Meta AI announced LLaMA on February 24, 2023, a family of efficient foundation language models released to researchers that delivered competitive performance at smaller sizes. The weights soon spread widely and catalyzed a large open-source ecosystem of fine-tuned models. LLaMA and its successors made capable LLMs broadly accessible outside the largest labs.
